Instead of feasting on the blood of others, he was to collect the souls of lifeless vampires. The Elder explained that it was now Raziel's destiny to restore Nosgoth to its former state and destroy Kain once and for all. Raziel had been in the void for centuries and become nothing more than a deformed being- his wings had been destroyed, his mouth gone, and his body eaten by acid. He awoke to the sound of the Elder, a supernatural being who brought him back to life. Raziel was thrown over the side of a cliff and began his long descent into whatever hell he was being banished to his flesh began to burn and his body began to deteriorate. Needless to say, the ruler was not happy.īecause he felt threatened by Raziel's power, Kain sentenced him to the void - a swirling pool of burning energy. Raziel helped his empire grow and eventually surpassed Kain in duty, rank, and leadership. Kain saw to it that every human was punished in some way they were turned into vampires, or given the ultimate punishment of death. His empire was built on the foundation of vampires and monstrous beings - human life had become non-existent. With the Soul Reaver in hand, he had become power hungry, completely forgetting what his original goal was - to avenge his own death by seeking out the people who murdered him. Instead of choosing death (his punishment was eternal life), Kain decided to rule the world of Nosgoth at the end of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. The place of the Spirit Reaver was ultimately taken in the retail version by the Kain Reaver.
Unlike other cut enhancements, the Spirit Reaver is not present in any form in the retail version of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and it is not listed under the debug menu.
The blade could kill enemies with one strike or projectile and its usage prevented Raziel from feeding on enemies souls. The forge for the blade was located in the Citadel. The Spirit Reaver was present in the Soul Reaver alphas publicized in 2020 where it is a bright green blade. The blade was intended to be have several special abilities "destroying" enemies in a single strike or Force bolt. The blade would have been a temporary enhancement, though when lost it could be re-imbued from enemies Souls. It was intended to be discovered by Raziel, but the Reaver enhancement were ultimately cut due to time constraints along with the companion Spirit Glyph.
